Music Shaped by Your Story & Spirit

Introducing
Peter de Mets
Whether composed for a sanctuary or a stage, a classroom or a cathedral, each piece is crafted with care and specificity. I do not write for the market. I write for the people who will bring the work to life.
From that place, the music reveals itself.

Music that Responds To Its Performers
When original text is needed, I collaborate with poet Mark A. Boyle to craft language drawn from the ensemble's own experience. His poems often become the expressive core of vocal works—lived, luminous texts born from real conversation.
For instrumental commissions, the shaping begins not with words, but with tone, range, motion, and architecture. Always in service to the players who will animate the score. What follows is music composed with clarity, warmth, and deep attention to the capabilities and character of your ensemble.
Together, we create works that are not merely performable, but inhabitable.

Available Works
Some pieces begin with a single ensemble. Others are born to travel farther.
This growing collection of my published works invites choirs, handbells, and instrumental ensembles to step into music shaped by story, spirit, and shared human voice.
