Commissioned by CoroAllegro of Delaware, Ryan Carlin Artistic Director. This piece is a setting of Mark A. Boyle’s autobiographical poem about his dealings with suicide. A very personal piece with tonal language that covers the wide emotional range of the poetry. The piece starts with the declamatory “It’s not that I wanted to die! It’s that I didn’t want to live. There’s a difference” and tells how reaching for a hand in the dark, Mark found his salvation in a friend, who had no idea what he was going through. A very powerful piece, indeed.
